Adult and Teen Art Classes and Workshops:
Fall 2010 Class Schedule


The following classes are open to adults, as well as teens, ages 15 and up. Class sizes are limited and most fill quickly so register early. If for any reason a particular class does not fill, you will be notified and a full refund will be given.

Open Studio Painting
Dates: Thursdays Oct. 7, 14, 28, 29, Nov. 4, 11, 18
Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Instructors: Teresa Davis
Cost: $200

If you have always wanted to try painting or if you've painted in the past but you're feeling "rusty" - this is a great class for you. Explore and create in a relaxed environment. Complete beginners are encouraged to attend. Paint with either acrylic or watercolor. Select subjects of your choice & receive individualized technique tips, encouragement & support to begin your painting adventure. Up to three canvases as well as all paint and materials are included in the cost of this class.

How to Draw Stick People (Beginning Drawing for Adults)
Dates: Tuesdays, Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26, Nov. 2, 9
Time: 6:30 - 8:30

If you'd like to learn to draw, but you find yourself saying, "I can't even draw stick people," then this is the class for you. This class is for the absolute and total beginner or those who have been previously traumatized in an art class. Each evening, we will have several fun and fabulous drawing experiences that will open up a whole new world of art for you. We will use many types of pens, pencils, & markers and even try drawing with ink and paint. Play around during our drawing exercises like, "eyedropper faces, Picasso dogs, and doodling on steroids." Come and join in on the fun.

Make Friends with your Sewing Machine
Dates: Monday, Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25, Nov. 1, 8
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Instructor: Wylie Garcia
Cost: $200
Learn how to use a sewing machine while making several fun projects. (You can use one of our machines, or bring in your own). We will learn sewing machine basics like how to thread the machine, fill a bobbin, etc. You will also learn to put in a zipper, make buttonholes, and much more. We will make a variety of projects while we learn sewing techniques. Our projects will include: a recycled bag for shopping, a deconstructed t-shirt, a wallet, and a table place setting.

Upcycle Designer's Boutique
Dates: Wednesdays, Oct 6, 13, 20, 27, Nov. 3, 10
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Design Chic meets thrift in this fun, creative class where you will learn to "upcycle" old materials into new fabulous creations. In this 6 week class, an old set of sweaters may become a new sunggly quilt, stained novelty towels may transform into beautiful pillow cases, or a worn pair of jeans could get turned into a classy new clutch. Become the ultimate artsy recycler. Bring your old items to upcycle (or we can provide some raw materials). We will also provide sewing machine guidance and our expertise in upcycle design. Discover the endless possibilities for finding new and exciting uses for items that might otherwise end up in the landfill.

Write and Illustrate a Book
Dates: Wednesdays, Oct 6, 13, 20, 27, Nov. 3, 10
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Instructor: Teresa Davis
Cost: $200
Do you have an idea for a children's book? How about a family story you wish to record as a gift for your children or grandchildren? In this class you will be supported in bringing your book to completion. You will be offered support and editing feedback on your text. Then, even if you feel you don't have strong art skills, we will help you find ways to "illustrate" your manuscript. You will be able to choose from a wide variety of art materials for your book, (acrylic, watercolor, pastels, pen & ink, printmaking, paper or fabric collage, etc.) Your original book will be color-copied and bound with beautiful papers or fabrics and hand stitching. Seven week class, published books to be picked up at a later date - to be announced.

Mosaic Mirror
Dates: Tuesdays, Oct. 5, 12, 19
Time: 6:30-8:30p.m.

Cost:$100
Mirror, mirror, on the wall - your mirror will be the coolest one of all. Learn how to create beautiful mosaic patterns and how to grout and set your masterpiece. Choose from our collection of glass and ceramic tile, stained glass, pebbles and ephemera to create an unusual mosaic art piece made from recycled materials. We provide materials, but you may want to bring in your costume jewelry or other fun items to add some personalization and sparkle to this one of a kind original art piece.

Paparazzi/Mamarazzi
Dates: Wednesdays Oct. 6, 13, 20
Time: 6:30 - 8:30

Ever wonder how to take fantastic pictures of those fast moving kiddos of yours? Or what about capturing a beautiful image of your grandmother? This class will teach you the basics of how to use your digital camera, whether a point and shoot or a fancy DSLR, to take beautiful portraits. You will learn the basics of composition, the fundamentals of digital photography, and learn some of the secrets that the pros use. You will compile an online library of imagery, and receive a professional photobook of your best pictures. Bring your camera with you to the first class.

Holiday Clay Ornaments & Handmade Wrapping Paper
Dates: Mondays, Nov. 1, 8, 15
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Instructors: Jen Labie & Erika White
Cost: $100
Get ready for a handmade holiday season this year. Make several styles of beautiful ornaments from clay, then add color with glaze & paint. Ornaments will be fired in our kiln and ready in plenty of time for Christmas. Learn to create your own unique wrapping paper and cards by discovering many print-making possibilities. Get lots of creative ideas for personalizing. Your creations will enhance your holidays and all projects will be great for gift-giving as well.
