Winter 2010 Class Schedule
The following youth classes are designed
for students between the ages of 3 and 18. Class sizes are
limited and most fill quickly so register early. If for any
reason a particular class does not fill, you will be notified
and a full refund will be given.
Get Creative with Clay (ages 8 - 14)
7 week class
Date: Mondays, Jan. 4, 11, 18, 25, Feb. 1, 8, 15
Time: 3:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Instructor: Jen Labie
Cost: $200
Pick up date held after clay is fired - to be announced.
Explore the exciting possibilities of working with clay. You
will learn the basics of hand building and will make several
cool and useful projects such as an animal shaped pinch pot,
and an original slab-built plate, bowl, mug or tray. Your
pieces will be glazed and fired in a kiln. Each piece will
be your own unique design and creation. Seven week class,
pieces to be picked up at a later date after fired.

Media Paintings (ages 6 - 13)

Learn tricks and tips for using a wide variety of interesting
materials to create unique and exciting paintings. In this
mixed media class you will have the opportunity to explore
working with a variety of materials such as watercolor, ink,
acrylic, pastels, fabric, tissue paper and much more. Find
out how to combine materials for surprising and wonderful
results in your artwork. Explore the amazing possibilities
while completing several finished pieces. Six week class,

Preschool
Art (ages 3 - 5 with adult)
Looking for a unique, high quality activity
for you & your child? This class is designed for children to
attend with a participating adult. We will explore art through
watercolor, printmaking, painting, collage, sculpture & much

Mapping
the World through Art (Europe)
(Home School Students ages 7 - 15)
6 week class

Home schooled students will create handmade maps that are geographically
accurate as well as visually appealing. Each map will be a unique
work of art. Students will also be introduced to the art and
culture of the region we are mapping. The winter session will
focus on the continent of Europe. Students can chose to map
all of Europe or a specific country or region. We will complete
a brief overview of European art through the ages, and create
several quality pieces of art inspired by this interesting area
of the world. Six week class, reception on seventh week.

Fashion
Illustration (ages 10 - 15)

If fashion is your passion you will love this class. Learn to
sketch the human figure while using your creativity to design
your own fashions. Tips will be given to help with figure proportion
as well as drawing faces, hands and feet. In addition you'll
practice drawing fabric folds and textures as well as fashion
accessories such as shoes and purses. You'll learn both quick
sketching methods and how to work with "croquis." Each student
will receive a sketchbook for your designs. You can use artists
pencils, professional markers, ink and watercolor to complete
several sketches for your portfolio. Individual interpretation,
developing a personal style and creative drawing skills are
emphasized. Six week class, reception on seventh week.

Old
Masters Drawing Techniques (ages 8 - 14)

Learn an exciting method of drawing similar to that used by
the old master's (da Vinci, Rembrandt, Durer & Goya). You will
be taught how to shade and create volume in your drawings by
making multiple small marks using a variety of single width
utensils such as pencils, brushes, paint markers and ink pens.
We will be working on wood boards for fantastic results. You
will complete one or more finished pieces of art ready to hang
in your own private collection.

Book Art (ages 7 - 14)

If you've ever wanted to try your hand at drawing comics and
cartoons, here is your chance. You'll have the opportunity to
create your own original cast of characters. You will learn
to draw your characters from many views and with a range of
expressions and poses. You can match captions or dialogue with
your illustrations. Add color or shading to make your drawings
pop. By the conclusion of this class you will have created your
own comic book.

Get cozy this winter with your very own hand crafted funky quilt.
In this class you will learn how to piece, stitch, and embellish
a quilt in your own funky, fun and personal style. Participants
are invited to bring in old clothes, fabrics, and interesting
trimmings or chose from the fabrics and trim we have on hand.
Quilt batting, backing fabric, and sewing machines will be provided.

is to be able to thread a needle and tie a knot.

tools, we will work collaboratively to create beautiful, one
of a kind papers or three dimensional paper objects. Our materials
will be both organic (grasses, leaves, etc.) and man-made (glitter,
tissue, etc.) Once you learn this amazing process you might
not want to stop.

Individualized

If you are passionate about exploring your art in depth, this
class will provide you with studio time and support. You will
focus on a particular category of art of your choice, select
your materials, and produce several quality pieces. You'll write
an artist's statement and have the opportunity to show your
work in Davis Studio or another public venue. Six week class
(no reception)
Note: This is an-going class. Students are encouraged
(though not required) to take more than one, six week session
throughout the year in order to develop a body of work.
